Fintech Innovation Supporting Stronger Japan–Montenegro Relations
Tokyo, Japan — Digital Wallet Corporation, a leading fintech company based in Japan, had the honor of hosting His Excellency Mr. Milojko Spajić, Prime Minister of Montenegro, at its Tokyo office on May 27, 2025. The visit was part of the Prime Minister’s official working trip to Japan aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing economic and technological cooperation.
Prime Minister Spajić’s visit marked a historic opportunity to highlight the alignment between Montenegro’s development goals and Japan’s leadership in digital innovation.
“This visit is just the beginning, we look forward to exploring partnerships that connect Japan’s technological strengths with Montenegro’s vision for a connected, digital future.” Eiji Miyakawa, Founder and CEO of Digital Wallet Group commented.
Part of a Landmark Diplomatic Mission
The visit to Digital Wallet Corporation came just one day before Prime Minister Spajić met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on May 28, where the two leaders agreed to deepen cooperation on regional security, economic development, and digital transformation. The summit also announced visa-free travel for Montenegrin citizens to Japan starting in autumn 2025, a significant milestone in bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Spajić, who previously studied in Japan under a government scholarship, is fluent in Japanese. His summit remarks were delivered entirely in Japanese, marking a first for a foreign head of state visiting Japan.
Exploring Digital Finance Cooperation
During the visit to Digital Wallet Corporation, Prime Minister Spajić met with company executives to learn more about the company’s work in remittance services and fintech solutions. Discussions included Montenegro’s fintech potential and the role of Japanese technology in supporting secure and accessible financial services in Southeast Europe.

Montenegro’s growing interest in fintech aligns with its broader strategic goals, including EU accession by 2028 and building an innovation-driven economy.
Looking Ahead
Montenegro and Japan are expected to strengthen bilateral ties further with the upcoming Montenegro–Japan Business Forum later this year. In addition, Montenegro plans to open an embassy in Tokyo, a significant step in deepening diplomatic and economic relations. On the other hand, Digital Wallet Corporation remains committed to supporting initiatives that foster international cooperation and financial inclusion through the power of fintech.
