On May 9 and 10, 2026, the grounds of Joshi Koen Toyama Castle were transformed into an area of Filipino culture. This landmark event marked the first-ever Philippine Festival in Toyama, drawing Filipinos from across Toyama Prefecture and neighboring regions for a weekend of celebration and connection.

As part of its ongoing commitment to “Sharing Smiles” and community efforts within the Philippines corridor, Smiles Mobile Remittance was honored to serve as a co-organizer alongside the Toyama Association of Filipino Communities.

A historic milestone for the Filipino community

The festival represented a significant step in strengthening the bonds within the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) community in the Chubu region. The Smiles Philippines and Smiles Connect teams joined forces with local organizers to ensure the event was not only a cultural showcase but also a platform for providing essential support services to the community.

Event highlights

The weekend was packed with excitement, but several key highlights stood out for the thousands in attendance:

  • Star power with a purpose: Smiles brought special guest Gabby Concepcion to the festival, providing a unique “Meet and Greet” opportunity that allowed the Filipino community to connect with a beloved icon from home.

  • Engagement through fun: The Smiles booth was a center of energy, featuring interactive activities designed to bring people together, including basketball challenges, a festive photobooth, and various board games.

  • Institutional support: Recognizing the importance of financial security, Smiles partnered with the Social Security System (SSS) and the Philippine National Bank (PNB). Both institutions were present at the Smiles booth to offer direct assistance and guidance to attendees regarding their financial infrastructure and benefits.

A legacy of “Sharing Smiles”

The Festival in Toyama follows a tradition of major sponsorships by Smiles Mobile Remittance, including long-standing support for the Philippine Festival in Tokyo. By expanding its presence to regions like Toyama, Smiles continues to fulfill its mission of improving the lifestyles of its customers and strengthening its position as the “Absolute Number One” remittance service in Japan.
